On Saturday November 26th it's Port Holiday Magic! Stop by our booth from 12-noon to 4pm . We will be on Main Street across from the train station.
We will collect food, baby formula, diapers and toiletries. We will also tell people about Can You Help Too and we will encourage them to join our commUNITY project (click here).
The Magic Returns To Main Street & Beyond (co-hosted by Residents Forward with the PW BID, the PW Chamber of Commerce, and Landmark on Main Street.)Don’t miss the magic when Port Washington comes alive with entertainment, special offers, free trolley, and a whole lot of MAGIC!
Performances begin at 12pm.
Santa rides a fire truck then greets families at the train station on Main Street; musical march on Main Street; DJ, old fashioned sleigh, costumed characters, booths at the train station; free trolley for shoppers; strolling carolers; entertainment at several locations and more.
Nov. 26 marks the 12th annual Small Business Saturday – a day to support the local businesses that create jobs, boost the economy and preserve our neighborhoods. Everyone benefits when we remember “BEFORE YOU CLICK AND BUY, GIVE PORT A TRY.”
To make this day extra festive and to kick off the holiday shopping season in a big way, the Greater Port Washington BID, the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce, Residents Forward and Landmark on Main Street is celebrating with our own Port Holiday Magic! Starting at noon, kids of all ages can see Santa ride past on a firetruck. He will travel along Port Washington Boulevard, Main Street, Shore Road and Manorhaven Boulevard.
Stores throughout town will have special holiday offers for shoppers. Some offers will be for the entire holiday season and some stores will arrange for delivery or pickup. For the latest updates on participating stores’ holiday specials, visit the Events section on the Try Port First mobile app or pwcoc.org.
Shoppers will enjoy live and recorded musical entertainment outside as they stroll from store to store. Entertainers will be at the train station, at Ayhan’s Corner and at other locations on Main Street. There will be several holiday-themed backgrounds for your perfect holiday selfies, including an old-fashioned sleigh, an inflatable snowman and an inflatable tree.
Port Washington’s shopping districts will look especially festive for the celebration. The BID will install lighted snowflakes on the utility poles and the Chamber will adorn the Main Street lampposts with garland, lights and red bows. Stores throughout town will go all out to win the Port Holiday Magic Window Decorating Contest. To support both the businesses and shoppers, the Town of North Hempstead is suspending all on-street parking meter fees from Port Holiday Magic on Small Business Saturday to January 1, 2022. The Port Washington Police District will provide extra safety for shoppers at the major crossings.
The event raises awareness of the vital role small businesses play in our community and our economy. This year more than ever, shopping locally for the holidays is safe, convenient and easy. You are supporting your local merchants, who not only appreciate your business but also pay a large share of property taxes and help maintain the economic stability of our community. They also offer special customer services that the online merchants and big box stores don’t offer and they support requests for donations for our community organizations like the schools, scouts, religious and civic institutions and others.
Importantly, online shoppers may not realize that for every $100 you spend in your local small businesses, $68 stays in our community through jobs, taxes, contributions to non-profits and more. For every $100 you spend online, $0 stays in our community.
Help strengthen our community by supporting local businesses that support our town. Shop Local on Nov. 26 and throughout the holiday season. Be sure to look for the gold and red bow on the doors of participating businesses and show them your support. All the store specials are available rain, snow or shine!

We are the place where children and their caregivers make their first connections.Founded by Lynne Patterson in 1980, the PRC was originally housed in one room of the old Flower Hill School on Campus Drive. The Community Dinners are finally back in person last night! It was so nice to work in the kitchen and to meet new families. Even though we did not have as many families as we used to, it was still a huge success. The strong message going back to the community we try to support is that WE ARE BACK! We were able to provide a safe welcoming and inclusive fun time for all. Let the word spread that those who could not join us missed a special event and that they should join next time!
I want to take the time to thank the Community Dinners sponsors - Comfort Diner and Grace's Table for their generous food donation. Comfort Diner makes the best Mac & Cheese and Lemon Chicken ...sorry mom....

February 24th
Alex and I delivered food we have been collecting. It was really nice to see Sister Kathy today. I introduced her to my friend, Alex. I also made sure to give her the Covid tests Councilwoman Dalimonte and Supervisor DeSena wanted to donate to Our Lady Of Fatima.
February 22nd
2/22/22 was a very special day, I met with Councilwoman Dalimonte and Supervisor DeSena from Town Of North Hempstead. David and I were supposed to meet in December , but the meeting got cancelled because of Omicron.
David and I received a Proclamation for our community work. David wished he could have been there. Councilwoman Dalimonte drove by Syracuse last week and said she would have met with David at Syracuse University, but she did not have the Proclamation with her. That's really nice. I told her that I would bring it to him this weekend, since my family and I are spending the weekend with him. I am also bringing food and toiletries I have been collecting for Syracuse University's food pantry. David has been collecting food and toiletries for their pantry.
Thank you very much to Councilwoman Dalimonte and Supervisor DeSena for donating Covid tests to Our Lady Of Fatima. I will drop them off on Thursday when I deliver the food donation I collected this month and the donation Alex and I collected this week.
February 21st
My friend Alex and I are running a food drive from today to Thursday (picture was taken in November). We will deliver all the food donations to Our Lady Of Fatima on Thursday. We could not set up our table at Stop & Shop or North Shore Farm this week because of Covid, so instead we are asking friends, family and neighbors to participate.
Do you have anything to donate? You can send me an email at help@canyouhelptoo.org

The Community Dinners have been cancelled again. The last one happened in September 2019 and then got cancelled in December 2019 because of the pandemic.
The Community Dinners used to take place 4 times a year. My family and I have been volunteering for the last 9 years. Last year we collected gift cards and we bought toys with the funds we had. For safety reasons, we decided to do a drive-thru and to hand out the gifts to people in need.
Today, we did the same thing. Stay tuned because we will need donations if we can resume the Community Dinners in 2022.

Great event for Be The Rainbow at the Growing Love Community Garden. Follow them on Instagram @betherainboworg and @growinglovepwTogether...We Can Help Too!!
At the event, Mrs. Meagan McCarty stopped by my booth and told me she was collecting food for NOSH.
A fire destroyed headquarters of Nosh in August. Although the brick building that housed NOSH remains intact, the fire destroyed the supply of Fresh, frozen and dry food stored upstairs, which was enough to feed families for two months.
We will be helping collecting items as well for NOSH... and You Can Help Too! So join us!

Thank you so much to everyone who donated. This week, we are asking everyone who is home on Labor Day Weekend to clean-up their pantries. If you have not open a can within the last 6 months...it does not look like you will open it soon...How about donating it. Even if it is just one can! As Mother Theresa said " If you cannot feed a 100 people , then feed just one". Did you know she was French? Just like David and I!
AUGUST 23, 2021
Now that David is in College and is no longer able to drive and drop off the donations, we decided to pick a local pantry to help. We want to encourage people to drop off needed items at The Lady Of Fatima in Manorhaven (Port Washington, NY) . We will still collect items (ask about our drop off bin on our driveway) and we will deliver them once a week or every other.
Today we met with Sister Kathy from The Lady Of Fatima in Manorhaven. She welcomed us with open arms and a big smile. The church was getting some donations delivered that day as well. It was nice to meet other people.
