Now more than ever, families and children are relying on Food Banks. When the pandemic hit, David (my brother) and I started collecting food for local pantries. One year later Can You Help Too came to life.
Since 2012, my family and I have been volunteering for The Community Dinners (click here). They are providing a free relaxing evening of dinner and dancing for families in need in our community. They take place 4 times a year. When the pandemic hit, the Community Dinners got cancelled. My brother and I ended up dropping off food at a local pantry, and we noticed the shelves were almost empty. This is when David and I decided to collect and deliver food each month. First our family helped, then our friends, then our neighbors. So we decided to make it official and start Can You Help Too. It became a commUNITY project.
Residents scheduled "contactless" or "front porch" pick-ups in 2020 and 2021. Once David went to college, I lost my driver. I decided to place a collecting bin on my driveway, so people from the community could easily drop off donations. Then I approached local businesses to find out if they wanted to host one of my bins. Our bins are now all around town. We offer the option to host our bins permanently or for a shorter period of time. Permanent locations get their very own webpage (click here). As a thank you, we advertise about our pop-up or permanent locations anytime someone drop off donations, and in May, we highlight businesses each Monday for two months. Our goal is to have enough locations, so we can do "Business Monday Highlights" each week all year round.
We support people in need in our community, but we also support local businesses.
We now have 5 permanent locations and 5 pop-locations.
Friends have now joined our team so we can expend (click here). People from the community can also borrow bins to run their own food drive and children make drawings we use as flyers to advertise our commUNITY project.

We encourage children from the community to make flyers to advertise our commUNITY project. Drawings can be dropped off in our bins around town or we can pick them up. Does your child want to participate? All they need is paper and crayons. After collecting them we will print information about our commUNITY food drives. Let us know if Scout Troups, Schools or Clubs are interested in participating. We will drop off a collection bin and flyers. We can also schedule a time for us to make a short presentation on the importance of fighting hunger.
